In the late 1970s, Satish Bhaskar embarked on an epic journey along the coasts of India and the remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands to discover beaches crucial for sea turtle nesting. With modest resources—a notebook, a transistor radio, basic equipment—and navigating largely uncharted territory, Bhaskar studied their habits, identified nesting beaches, and fought to have these places protected.
After the devastating 2004 tsunami, the documentary raises an urgent question: what happens when these vital beaches disappear? “Turtle Walker” not only retraces Bhaskar’s steps from the past but also explores his legacy and current conservation challenges: environmental change, habitat loss, and what it means to defend endangered species.
