WILD OCEANS FILMFEST
Third edition 4 - 9 november 2024
The third edition of the Wild Oceans FilmFest was held from November 4 to 9, 2024,
at the BIOPARC Aquarium in Gijón. This edition achieved a record level of participation,
with 491 productions from 77 countries.
"STAND UP FOR THE OCEANS"
Tras la presentación de esta tercera edición se dio a conocer el rico programa de actividades que se llevó a cabo del 4 al 9 de noviembre en las instalaciones del BIOPARC Acuario de Gijón donde se incluyeron proyecciones, coloquios y charlas durante toda la semana.
También se presentó la campaña #dalacaraporlosocéanos. Una iniciativa con la que se hizo partícipe al público de manera personal para formar un gigantesco mural con fotos de cada uno de ellos y que se desplegó en la inauguración del festival, el 4 de noviembre, y que se exhibirá en la fachada del Acuario de Gijón.

For six days, we were able to attend several screenings, each followed by a discussion session.

As part of the program of activities, we enjoyed programming for schoolchildren, talks, and masterclasses.
GYMKANA: Súbete a la ola de la conservación
As the closing activity of the Wild Oceans FilmFest, on Saturday, November 9, a gymkhana was held at Poniente Beach.
A gymkhana with different stations where participants had fun and learned about surfing, recycling, marine fossils, sharks, and the protection of coastal wildlife.
This event, open to all ages, concluded the festival with a day full of fun and learning about the importance of caring for our oceans.




AWARDS CEREMONY

On Friday, November 8, 2024, at 7:30 PM, the Award Ceremony of the 3rd Edition of the Wild Oceans FilmFest began.
The Wild Oceans FilmFest hosted an exciting awards gala, a night dedicated to honoring the talent of filmmakers. Their works succeeded in capturing the essence of the oceans and the importance of marine conservation.
The evening, filled with recognition, inspiration, and celebration, featured the presentation of trophies in 6 categories and a special tribute award.

Best Production Linking Surfing, Sailing, or Diving with Conservation: Children of Teahupo'o. France, 32 min, 2024. Oxbow, Showcast.
The Tribute Award “Saving the Oceans” was presented to Manu San Félix, biologist and explorer, underwater cinematographer for the conservation project Pristine Seas by National Geographic.
The Award Ceremony was hosted by Helena González Burón, PhD in Biomedicine, science communication expert, and comedian.
